Everything is Growing Has Sprouted!
I am so excited to introduce my sixth book, Everything is Growing! With beautiful illustrations by the talented Alice MacKenzie, this is the perfect interactive book for young children.
This book was inspired by the inherent interest children have for growth. They are fascinated by exactly how old they are, when their next birthday is, how tall they are, and how much they've grown - since yesterday.
So it made sense to choose "growing things" as a preschool enrichment class theme, and it was easy to extend their natural interest and engage them in learning. But I needed a book with which to begin the class, one that explored the concept of how everything is growing; from children to the natural world and all the way to our planet and the universe. I decided to write that book, and recruited a partner to collaborate with me and make my writing come alive through illustrations.
Too far or too much for preschoolers to understand? Not at all, especially when the learning starts with familiar concepts; themselves, flowers, animals, trees. Young children are also captivated by dramatic and exciting things like volcanoes and outer space, so Everything is Growing easily stretches them to think about a basic concept (growth) in a different way. The common theme of growing also facilitates learning that everything in life is related, while introducing what for them may be novel concepts; that the Earth is a dynamic, growing planet and that our universe is expanding.
Everything is Growing also includes activity pages for children to chart their own growth and learning and samples of related activities (think growing plants and making slime volcanoes erupt!). This makes it a great book for both home and classroom. Read, discuss, play, dream, imagine, experiment, and above all - ENJOY!
